Counselling and psychotherapy aim to address underlying psychological patterns that affect different aspects of our lives. There is a wide variety of difficulties and situations that may necessitate us to consider therapy, such as
• When we are experiencing severe symptoms that affect how we feel, think and function for a significant period.
• When we are experiencing stressful life events that are threatening or make us feel vulnerable in some way.
• When we are struggling to form connections or preserve our relationships.
• When we want to learn more and change something about ourselves.
• When we are struggling to understand and regulate our emotions.
My approach to therapy is collaborative. This means that together, we will work to identify, understand and confront the obstacles you face. This exploration may at times be an unsettling experience, especially at first. However, becoming aware of and dealing with these issues usually leads to an improvement in your functioning and personal growth, and thus your relationships over time. Essentially, the flow of therapy is unrehearsed, and it tends to unfold on the crest of an intimate and caring therapeutic relationship. It is thus my responsibility to ensure that this type of a therapeutic relationship is continually nurtured and experienced. The value of the work we will do together is often affirmed through better relationships, solutions to specific difficulties, and significant reductions in feelings of distress. My ultimate hope is that, through our therapeutic relationship, you will experience the great value of positive support.
